Giant Fans for Adrenalin Packed

20 Dec 2009

A first-of-its-kind in the Middle East, the sensational iFLY Dubai attraction, an indoor skydiving facility, is beginning to take shape at the soon-to-open Mirdif City Centre.

iFLY Dubai will use patented wind tunnel technology for its two tunnels offering an amazing no-strings attached adrenaline rush to visitors wanting to experience the thrill of free fall in a safe and comfortable environment.

Four gigantic fans, 400 horsepower each, located on the roof of the mall at Mirdif City Centre will induce airflow within the flight chambers generating the same wind speed skydivers feel during freefall. Air inside the tunnels will be re-circulated using turning vanes that will help to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the tunnels.

For younger children the speed of the fans will be reduced to ensure safety but will be full throttle for experienced skydivers who describe the adventure as being 'as close to the real thing without falling out of an aircraft'.

The wind generators, that have a diameter of over eight feet, and weigh more than 2,000 kilograms, are being imported from USA, where they already have a huge fan base. (No pun intended.)

iFLY Dubai is one of the five concepts that make Playnation, a single dedicated leisure and entertainment destination in the upcoming Mirdif City Centre. It is the latest initiative of Majid Al Futtaim Leisure, the company that is dedicated to providing some of the most innovative and original leisure concepts seen in Dubai targeting all age groups.
